Description
Fort Jefferson is a massive but unfinished coastal fortress located on a small, waterless island called Garden Key, 60 miles of the coast of Key West. Though never finished the fort was active during the 1800s. While the soldiers may have found the views beautiful, the duty was miserable. Heat, insects, disease and lack of water belied the scenic vistas. The fort is now a National Park accessible only by boat or aircraft such as float planes.

Wonderful capture of the interior of this 1800s government boondoggle. I visited here while sailing to Key West and anchored for the night....... LF
