Description
The Grand Island Harbor Lighthouse first opened for service in 1868. The light was very hard to see from Lake Superior, and was replaced by another light somewhere around 1910. The lighthouse was originally painted white but after being closed it fell into disrepair and became badly deteriorated. In the early 2000's local citizens joined together, and with assistance from the American Lighthouse Society, raised funds and restored the building. They chose not to repaint it white but kept the rustic appearance that all had known and loved.

John, this is wonderful! I first thought it was a church, then I saw it was a lighthouse. I love that they kept the rustic appearance. Super capture! l/f
