Description
Something about Devils Tower keeps drawing me back to consider the mysteriousness surrounding it. An abstration seems to be the best way to give a glimpse into that feeling.
Per the National Park Service website, [Devils Tower is] "...an astounding geologic feature that protrudes out of the rolling prairie surrounding the Black Hills." This site is considered Sacred to the Lakota and other tribes that have a connection to the area. Hundreds of parallel cracks make it one of the finest traditional crack climbing areas in North America. Devils Tower entices us to explore and define our place in the natural and cultural world.Devils Tower did not visibly protrude out of the landscape until the overlying sedimentary rocks eroded away. As the elements wore down the softer sandstones and shales, the more resistant igneous rock making up the tower survived the erosional forces. As a result, the gray columns of Devils Tower began to appear as an isolated mass above the landscape.
As rain and snow continue to erode the sedimentary rocks surrounding the Tower's base, more of Devils Tower will be exposed.
This artwork is an unique creation using a process to produce what I call photographic art. I work with one of my photographs (sometimes more than one), using several professional digital tools in multiple steps, to create a one of a kind work of art. I call the outcome photographic art and am quite proud to include it in my gallery. Many of the photographs that I use in this process are also available in its original photographic form elsewhere in my gallery. Both these creative processes, photography and digital art, stimulate my passion and satisfy my need to create.

There is so much to love about this image. The colors, the post processing. This really is a show stopper! I am making plans to visit this place in the fall of 2019. Happy shooting!
