Description
The black skimmer (Rynchops niger) is a tern-like seabird. The Black Skimmer is distinctive-looking with a unique knife-like bill and foraging technique. When feeding they fly low over the water surface with the lower mandible skimming the water for small fish. Skimmers are the only birds in the world with a lower mandible longer than the upper.

WOW! This "Black Skimmer Portrait" is a surprise and a delight, to me. I have never seen nor heard of one before. What a fun capture and description, John! I like the "sand" background too! V/L

What a unique creature! After reading your description, its appearance makes total sense . . . just glad the Creator added that splash of color . . . lipstick to match its stockings! . . . .vf

LOL! Yes, it is amazing how "well designed" wildlife can be according to their unique niche in Nature.
