Description
On the Notre Dame campus, In the early 1960's, a new library was built and a mural painted on the south wall called the "Word of Life." The mural with the upraised hands of Jesus could be seen by seats in the south portion of the football stadium standing behind the north endzone. It could also be seen by some of the TV cameras used to televise Notre Dame football. In the 1964 season the name "Touchdown Jesus" began to be used and caught on right away. It is now a famous sight and saying in the football world.
